DJ Coffman Wins The Comic Book Challenge

Posted by admin on July 24th, 2006

As reported by.. well everyone DJ Coffman of the Comic Yirmumah has won The Comic Book Challenge sponsored by Platinum Studios and the local NBC station in San Diego.

“I think I saw the press release on THE PULSE,” Coffman said of the contest. “I entered on a whim. I had the superhero idea for Hero By Night in the back of my head and figured that might be what they were looking for. I didn’t think I’d get picked. I found out I was a finalist last Wednesday night and had seven days to get out to the San Diego Comic-Con. I spent all my savings to get out to San Diego Comic-Con.”

JENNIFER M. CONTINO at Comicon.com has a nice write up.

DJ’s reaction can be found HERE.

ICE: a really good online comic

Posted by admin on July 23rd, 2006

ICEICE is done by Faith Erin Hicks. In her words “It’s a dark story of life in a future England, where temperatures never rise above zero and the monarchy is up to no good“. ICE had been on Modern Tales and saddly I kept missing the updates, but that’s all taken care of, Faith has made her archives available for everyone. I previously haven’t kept up with it and I’m not going to blame modern tales or similar sites about their methods. I think they have a good idea. Hell I think they have a great idea where you subscribe to get the archives. I think they need to go further with it and bind up the archives and sell them once a year. I also think they may have been a little ahead of their time. I think that model can work now with as popular as iTunes and similar rss feeds are now. Sorry I got side tracked. ICE is really well written and the story is packed FULL of every thing that makes a good drama. It’s got love, and new addictions, It has bad guys with moral quirks. I like to think of it as having flavor. More then that ICE is consistant the art is great with a prisma color marker look (remind me to ask her how she colors) and the story full and could stand on its own.

What I’m saying is go check out ICE and read through the archives. When your done go back and read Demonology 101 (Also by Faith) and check out the rest of her site.

YHT News!

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2006

Wes Molebash over at YHTComic was kind enough to drop us an email with his news announcements. This fits right in with our Gigcast motto of “Make the guest do your work and take all the credit”. Thanks Wes!

Cool Announcement Number the First . . .

I’m finally ready to start selling archival prints of the comic strip. In order for me to purchase the shipping supplies, I’m going to start the selling off with a pre-sale. Basically, I need to sell at least 6 prints in order to purchase the mailing materials. Once I have the materials I can ship the artwork. Unfortunately, the first few customers will have to be “guinea pigs” which means they’ll probably have to wait a few weeks to get their artwork. (more…)
