Webcomic Wire - 7/2/08

Posted by DarthMike on July 2nd, 2008

Drawn from sources that are hard at work…

  • Documentary about Creative Commons business models.
  • Jorge Cham of PhD Comics shows us the vicious cycle of staying up late.
  • Platinum Studios announces their top 50 for this years Comic Book Challenge. Good luck to you all! And just for the record PS paid DJ Coffman the money they owed him according to his blog. Xerexes has a good post which nicely puts PS’s negotiations with Wowio in perspective.
  • Let KC Green teach you how to draw.
  • R. Stevens, Meredith Gran, Scott Kurtz, Dave Kellett and Brad Guigar on Googleplex talking about webcomics.
  • The Floating Lightbulb has a post about how to promote your T-shirts.
  • Robbie Allen, or Pembroke W. Korgi if you’re cool, has started a new webcomic called Febbegasm. Best of luck Pembroke!

  • Platinum Studios in negotiations to aquire WOWIO, LLC. Still no response to my press inquiries about DJ Coffman’s contract issues.
  • R. Stevens is ending his syndication arrangement with United Media.
  • The Webcomic Watchmen review Happiness is a Warm Gun.
  • Some cool stuff from the Floating Lightbulb including a post about John Solomon and a shotgun interview with Liesl Adams of On the Edge.
  • An interview with Drunk Duck Founder Dylan Squires who is moving on from Platinum.
  • An interesting post entitled ‘What happened to Comics 2.0?’
  • Webcomics Inc. blog has moved to a networked community site called ning.
  • CBR has an interesting post about MySpace and Comics.
  • Red Eyed Johnny, America’s first nationwide webcomic rehab program.

Drawn from sources who get their news from the Daily Show because it feels better in my soul-like region…

  • Platinum Studios announced in their newsletter that they recently had an independent firm perform an IP asset valuation and came up with the estimated worth of a little over $150MM.
  • Heidi MacDonald has a great post about how Platinum is dealing with D.J. Coffman, now saying that they’re not going to hand back the rights after all. I guess $150MM isn’t enough and D.J. is right, it’s never too late to do the right thing; I’m looking at you Brian Altounian. Joey Manley has more.
  • The Webcomic Watchman reviews Happiness is a Warm Gun.
  • John Freeman has a brief guide to making webcomics.
  • The Webcomic Overlook has posted reviews during its self proclaimed furry week.
  • Kevin Cornell talks about the implements of the trade.
  • Jon Rosenberg, creator of Goats, interviewed on ComicMix.
  • A helpful tip to webcomics with RSS feeds from Blueskycomic.
  • Call for artists.
  • Grumps is over, so long and thanks for all the fish!
  • Blank It, a new webcomic from Lemuel Pew and Aric McKeown.
