Be a good neighbor and wish Ryan a happy birthday. While your there check out his comic. That way it’s like you get a birthday treat.
I have to be honest with you. I’m writing this post mostly for myself. I need to link this page fast before I forget how I found it. Ramón Pérez of butternut squash fame has a new comic project called Kukuburi and it’s BEAUTIFUL! Kukuburi is a story about a girl (Nadia) and her lizard (Mr. Bojangles) as the find themselves suddenly in a wild and beautiful world filled with flying whales and dragons and beings of all imagination. Honestly folks it screams PLEASE LET ME TAKE YOU HOME!
I’ve kept you here to long. Go check it out.
Incase you missed it we interviewed Mike Witmer of pinkertonpark.com. I’m here today to remind you to stop by and check him out at his newly launced GoComics site.
Just a bit of interesting news out of the power house that is Blank Label. Will this mean a new talent search to fill the hits void that this will leave? Or will this mean a much less active group?

267-207-1078THREE CARTOONISTS LEAVE BLANK LABEL TO FORM NEW
HALFPIXELThree members of Blank Label Comics are ending their
partnership with Blank Label Comics to form a new
collective, Halfpixel, along with the creator of PvP
(pvponline.com), Scott Kurtz.Dave Kellett (sheldoncomics.com), Kris Straub
(starslip.com) and Brad Guigar (evil-comic.com) will
become members of the new Halfpixel — previously a hub
for Straub and Kurtz’s joint efforts. The site will
now become a hub for all four artists and the projects
the four of them are collaborating on — such as the
popular Webcartoonist Weekly podcast and the upcoming
“How To Make Webcomics” book being published by Image
Comics.“The four of us are finding ourselves working on more
and more projects together, and Dave, Kris and I
decided it wouldn’t be fair to try to split our
energies between the two groups,” said Guigar. “We
told our BLC partners about this a few weeks ago, and,
true to BLC form, we’re doing this without the
requisite Webcomics Drama. Those looking for sour
grapes or angry sentiments are going to be
disappointed. We’re all still very much friends and
fans of one another’s work.”All of the artists will retain control over their
respective creations and Web sites. “In the broadest
sense, the name ‘Halfpixel’ will be what we’ll
organize under any time we do a project together,”
said Kellett. “Things like the podcast, book,
convention appearances, content for the hub site, any
joint animations or second strips we do
together…that sort of thing. Any time two or more
are gathered together for a project, we’ll probably do
it under the Halfpixel banner.”“I started the old Halfpixel out of a desire to really
push myself creatively and see if I could come up with
the next big thing” said Straub. “That philosophy
stuck when Halfpixel became me and Scott, and it’ll be
a driver for the four of us now.”“I think that Webcomic collectives are the new garage
bands,” said Kurtz. “Everyone plays an instrument and
you look for people to develop a sound with. We all
got together and started jamming one a week and
realized, ‘holy crap, guys… this sounds GOOD. We
should take this on the road.’”The Webcomics Weekly podcast can be found at

Your interested in just what Zuda Comics is going to offer and you wonder if you have what it takes to be a member. Take a look at Comic Book Resources write up on what Zuda is leaving the gate with. I wouldn’t call these guys powerhouses in the industry but they all have talent. Sharpen your pencils guys Zuda wants to raise the bar.
here’s a reference list of some of the talent Zuda is going to showcase.
That should give you an idea where Zuda is going with it’s talent search. Bring the A games guys, I know you got what it takes.
That’s right, the contest is to do the best drawing of Dash and the winner gets a brand new Microsoft Zune. This particular model is the 30 gigabyte model and from personal experience, portable music players are perfect for when you’re drawing your comics and art. So, all you need to do to get this awesome prize is draw Dash Kameku, the star of Cosmic Dash.
So, how exactly does the contest work? Simple! You just draw your best Dash Kameku you can. You can enter as many times you like with as many drawings as you’d like. You can do black and white, color, 3D models, whatever you want. My favorite rendition of the character gets the Zune as well as the option of me designing a character for them and several of my original sketches for Cosmic Dash pages.
Brian Anderson Wants your art SKILLS!
I’ve got news.
I’m returning to my webcomic roots. Not that I left them, just well…wait…now I’m confused. Right, I’m launching a new webcomic January 1st and I’m looking for artists. The comic will be based on my upcoming novel “The Conjurers.” Yes, it certainly would help promote the book, but the webcomic will launch and continue on regardless of what happens with the book.
Initially it will be updated once a week and I plan on having at least three artists working on separate stories. If things go well with the book deal, I plan on self-funding the webcomic. In other words, my goal is to turn it into a paying gig for the artists. I haven’t put the official announcement up yet on the site, but anyone can swing by and get a feel for the world in the novel.
It’s really kind of a new approach to a webcomic. One that I’m excited about and am sure will be fun.
Cheers,
Brian Anderson

And The Winner Is! Jorge Vega and Gunplay!
SYS-CON Media has a nice write up.
“This is a dream come true for me!” Vega said. “You only see these things happen to people on TV, and I still can’t believe that Gunplay was selected. Platinum Studios and AT&T have created a tremendous contest that allows aspiring comic creators such as me the opportunity to enter this field, and I’m honored and humbled that hundreds of thousands of people globally in the comic community selected my concept from all of the amazing entries.”

This is some sad news. Mike Wieringo was an incredible artist. Currently his web site is down (at about 3:30 central) but when you do get a chance look through his sketches and his “How-To” articles.
The comics industry has lost one of its most respected members this weekend – artist Mike Wieringo has passed away at the age of 44, according to numerous sources speaking with CBR News. Details are unclear right now, but early reports say he experienced a sudden and massive heart. Newsarama is reporting that Sunday afternoon Wieringo experienced chest pains and did call 911, but first responders were unable to reach him in time.
You can see more of his work on Deviantart as well
