I just wanted to point you to a good interview that Jennier Contino did with DJ Coffman about the news that Hero By Nights may hit your TV Screens.

BY JENNIFER M. CONTINO
Late yesterday, Platinum Studios sent out a press release announcing they’d teamed with IM Global to create a Hero By Night TV series. DJ Coffman’s Hero By Night was the 2006 winner of Platinum’s Comic Book Challenge. Coffman wasn’t informed of the deal. He woke up to dozens of phone messages and emails about the PR. Coffman’s a long time friend of THE PULSE, so we wanted to get a few comments from him about the potential live-action Hero By Night series and find out about his involvement with the musical group, Flobots.

Hi, My name is Brian Wilson From the comic Geist Panik.
I recently found the gigcast through the webcomic beacon. I am currently trying to promote the new strip( I ended my other comic of three years to start it) and was looking to get a kind of professional review. I listen to the gigcast and I really dig it, and I would love to either come on the show or see what you think of the new project!
Thanks!
-Brian Wilson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Media contact:
Brad Guigar

THREE CARTOONISTS LEAVE BLANK LABEL TO FORM NEW
HALFPIXEL

Three members of Blank Label Comics are ending their
partnership with Blank Label Comics to form a new
collective, Halfpixel, along with the creator of PvP
(pvponline.com), Scott Kurtz.

Dave Kellett (sheldoncomics.com), Kris Straub
(starslip.com) and Brad Guigar (evil-comic.com) will
become members of the new Halfpixel — previously a hub
for Straub and Kurtz’s joint efforts. The site will
now become a hub for all four artists and the projects
the four of them are collaborating on — such as the
popular Webcartoonist Weekly podcast and the upcoming
“How To Make Webcomics” book being published by Image
Comics.

“The four of us are finding ourselves working on more
and more projects together, and Dave, Kris and I
decided it wouldn’t be fair to try to split our
energies between the two groups,” said Guigar. “We
told our BLC partners about this a few weeks ago, and,
true to BLC form, we’re doing this without the
requisite Webcomics Drama. Those looking for sour
grapes or angry sentiments are going to be
disappointed. We’re all still very much friends and
fans of one another’s work.”

All of the artists will retain control over their
respective creations and Web sites. “In the broadest
This particular model is the 30 gigabyte model and from personal experience, portable music players are perfect for when you’re drawing your comics and art. So, all you need to do to get this awesome prize is draw Dash Kameku, the star of Cosmic Dash.

So, how exactly does the contest work? Simple! You just draw your best Dash Kameku you can. You can enter as many times you like with as many drawings as you’d like. You can do black and white, color, 3D models, whatever you want. My favorite rendition of the character gets the Zune as well as the option of me designing a character for them and several of my original sketches for Cosmic Dash pages.

I’ve got news.

I’m returning to my webcomic roots. Not that I left them, just well…wait…now I’m confused. Right, I’m launching a new webcomic January 1st and I’m looking for artists. The comic will be based on my upcoming novel “The Conjurers.” Yes, it certainly would help promote the book, but the webcomic will launch and continue on regardless of what happens with the book.

Initially it will be updated once a week and I plan on having at least three artists working on separate stories. If things go well with the book deal, I plan on self-funding the webcomic. In other words, my goal is to turn it into a paying gig for the artists. I haven’t put the official announcement up yet on the site, but anyone can swing by and get a feel for the world in the novel.

It’s really kind of a new approach to a webcomic. One that I’m excited about and am sure will be fun.

Cheers,

Found on Comixtalk.

From day one I have taken care to make sure that I never miss an update for Crimson Dark. It didn’t take me long to realise that this was going to become very difficult if I kept to a thrice-weekly update schedule, so i changed to twice-weekly to make sure that I wouldn’t be comprimising the quality of the comic. Since then I’ve been hoping that I might come to the point where I return to my original schedule, and I’m delighted to announce that I have reached that point (for now at least).

I’ve put in a lot of extra hours over these past few weeks and have built up such a sizable buffer that I’ve decided to put up an extra page every week until the end of Chapter 4. As well as satisfying my overwhelming desire to move the story forward, I’m hoping this will complement the story as chapter four approaches its climax and the pace quickens. Therefore expect new pages on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

When Chapter 4 ends there will be the usual week of filler, followed by chapter 5 which will return to the standard Monday/Friday schedule until I’m able to get back on top of things.

Good Luck David

Because I had to be reminded (translates to I’m kinda a dummy head) I forgot to include this news update in the latest Gigcast. Sorry Glych
Here’s a list of new things coming to Panel2Panel to cover on the Gigcast:

—

A FAQ page has been added to the site
(http://www.panel2panel.com/faq.html) where you’ll find a HUGE list of common questions we get and their answers. Questions like “Whatever happened to the original No Stereotypes?” and “Would you be willing to
collaborate on something?” There’s also a question we often get; “How do I get into the comics industry?” which is followed by a very long and thorough list of books that is an excellent jumping off point for
anyone who’s serious about making comics for a living. We feel this list is an important resource for anyone starting out.

2 new columns have joined the site. There was a vote on the forums to pick the new columnist from 2 worthy candidates, Adam Barnett and Jason Brown. Not only was the vote “so” close but their material
covered so different from each other that Glych made the executive decision to have both join. Adam Barnett, blogger for Comics Make No Sense (http://comicsmakenosense.blogspot.com/) will be covering older comics and graphic novels from the main stream with his column “The Procrastinator,” while Jason Brown will be covering independent and small press comics and graphic novels with his column “Shoegazing.” Jason’s been published in many gaming magazines in the UK which, with his addition, officially makes P2P, not only international, but
intercontinental.

—

I am officially a horrid news reported. Good think Tim doesn’t pay me.

I’ll keep it short because I know most of you today are here for the Wiz Rollins interview.

I have happily stayed on the sidelines when it comes to Wikipedia. I think it’s a great idea that is doomed to fail. If your like me you believe that too many cooks spoil the brew. That’s exactly what is going on right now on Wikipedia as it applies to webcomics. What we (I’m including everyone involved in webcomics) are finding is that what we believe to be notable and to have worth is being removed from the mix. It’s like being the guy who wants pineapple on a pizza and everyone else keeps picking it off.

I’m not encouraging anyone to take up the torch and run screaming into the fight. What I would like you to do is go read through the deletion article for Ugly Hill. If your not familiar with Ugly Hill you need to add it to your daily reads. It’s everything a webcomic needs to be. It’s most certainly notable and it’s of a quality that everyone should reach for. It’s honestly one of the strips that I would compare others against. That’s what makes it all the more odd that there’s even the idea that it should be removed from Wikipedia.

I think this is a great example of how to go down fighting. It’s stinks of someone feeling that if their Masters Thesis isn’t good enough then damn it funny comics should be good enough either. Wikipedia is serious business people not a bunch of haha’s. Blow it out your hole wikipedia. Millions of people a day read webcomics. how is that not notable.

This Great Image that you can find on Ugly Hills page sums it all up.

I had the great pleasure of stopping in my local comic shop. Sadly I didn’t spend as much money as I have in the past. I don’t get in as often as I used to and my subscriptions have ran out or the books I had been getting have been canceled or turned to crap. There was a couple of happy moments where I jumped up and down and acted like a dork. I picked up issue #2 of The Imaginaries and The Devils Panties 7 & 8.

Imaginaries is a pretty interesting read. The Imaginaries world is the place where all of your imaginary friends go once you forget or give up on them. It does at moments read like a “what if Superman had been in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit” comic. I like the world he is developing. Not giving to much away but I like how they explain the Teddy Bear Gestapo as not being all there. It seems that because Teddy Bears are not completely fake they can be dragged in and out of the real world and that is causing them to gain multiple personalities. I recomend it, at least for the moment. It has the possibilities to be a great book. The art and story are very strong, I would only fear that a world that loose could easily fall apart without some care.

The Devils Panties (the comic) is exactly what you would think it is. It’s Jennie Breeden in print. You can finally hold on to it and love it and pet it and call it George. That said obviously I’m a fan and asking the guys at the store they say that it sells well. One even mentioned that it brought in a few new regulars. Yea! I’ve can’t really complaine. I’m not sure I would have picked it up had I never read The Devils Panties before but it had all the funny that I get online in a big easy to carry format. It’s got a tough road ahead of it. It sits on the shelf very near classic comics like Captain America and we all know Cap is a no funny business kinda guy. Maybe a little Devils Panties humor will loosen up his red white and blue shorts.

It’s not instore yet but I wanted to point out that DJ Coffman (and Jason Embury) has been posting teasers on the Herobynight.net site. I’m a sucker and I’m hooked and I haven’t even bought issue #1 yet (that reminds me I should preorder). I know that your gonna tell me I’m an idiot and I can handel that, but DJ’s style is starting to remind me of Ron Garney’s style.

Here is DJ’s cover on issue #2

Here is one of my favorite Captain America covers.

Maybe it’s just the feel of the art but that’s the vibe I get.

I’ll cut this off now and see you all again the next time I get by the comic shop.

Broken Voice Comics

I clicked on Broken Voices links back to their page and left it open as a reminder to read some later on. I can tell you now that I am so hooked on at least one of the comics hosted at BVC, Immortality. They describe it as “Immortality Classic SciFi featuring the richest man in the universe and his faithful android”. I instantly found it cool, Like the first time I saw the Flash Gordon movie back in the 80′s. It’s the story of Issac Emphemer and in classic sci-fi style he’s a BASTARD. just a few pages in and he’s atacking a planet and demanding things! One of the things I like is the narrative is given by the android who almost tells his master what he thinks of him but doesn’t have the programing for it.
I’m such a geek I know.

As you may know I’m an art whore. I judge comic books by the cover. Immortality is good, really good. It has the feel of a 70′s sci-fi comic. I find that the lines are sharper then you would expect out of an old sci-fi book. It gives it a new feel with a classic look. I love the big chunky space suits and the plain rocket shaped ships.

Check it out and say hello to Brokenvoice on comicspace.

Have you been reading Sam and Max? Neither was I until I spotted a post on Comixpedia that talked about it’s “interactive” format. I am completely sold on it. I’m not always interested in comics who innovate as much as I am comics that put out solid art day after day. This struck me as a obvious blend of Internet meets great art. The whole idea being is that as you mouse over each panel the word bubbles pop up. Each panel is a little surprise I guess. What I found to be the best part is that you get to see how beautiful each panel looks without the speech bubbles in it.

I’m hoping more people have time to do this. I know it may be a ton of extra work for some and a big learning curve for others. The art whore in me loves this though so it has my vote.

From the frontpage of Blank Label Comics

A little known secret of mine is that I really like the comic Sheldon. I don’t read it as often as I would like because I don’t like how comics.com treats my computer. I’m really just not a fan of comics.com honestly. The comics.com site feels like reading ebay ads. So when I read that on tuesday November 7th Sheldon was moving to www.sheldoncomics.com I did a little happy dance. Sheldon honestly on my top list of comics I would ad to my daily paper or daily news site if I was running one. Here is the news as Dave Kellett wrote it. Don’t forget you can read and comment on this news at Blank Labels site.

Sheldon Is Moving!

A heads-up for Sheldon readers…on Tuesday, Nov. 7th, I’ll be moving the strip to a new site at http://www.sheldoncomics.com.

The new site will feature:
- Free access to 5+ years of Sheldon strip archives
- Larger-sized Sunday and daily comics
- Faster loading times
- Free daily delivery of Sheldon by e-mail
- Free RSS feed
- Free “Send This Strip to a Friend” feature
- “Jump to a Random Strip” feature
- No pop-up/pop-under ads
- Daily blog
- Direct links to the forum, store, and more
- … basically, everything the strip didn’t have at comics.com

But here’s my one request: please help get the word out about the new URL: http://www.sheldoncomics.com. The majority of Sheldon readers currently get the strip via “comics.com/comics/sheldon”, or via United Media’s e-mail delivery. And when the strip moves, these readers won’t have any way of know where the strip went to (I tried putting a notice in the strip…it got edited out).

So it’s up to me to get the word out. And you, if you’re willing.

Please, spread the news. And I’ll see you November 7th at the new site!

With thanks,
Dave Kellett

Good Luck Dave!

DJ Coffman announced today that Hero By Night Diaries has gone to M-F update schedule. DJ Coffman only recently launched Hero By Night Diaries on Drunk Duck and put his other comic Yirmumah on a (hell I don’t know what kind of schedule) schedule (on a side note DJ is looking for Guest strips for Yirmumah).

Hero By Night Diaries seems to have gotten a warm welcome and in my opinion looks sharp.

DJ says “I’m excited to be able to flesh out the world of the original Hero By Night via his journals. This is a whole new way of telling a story for me, and I look forward to not just creating a static comic strip, but a world the readers can get immersed in, or dig as deep as they’d like with clues or plots within many of the installments. Over time, I think it will be great when say for example, strip # 50 features something mentioned briefly in a prior strip, and will be a nice payoff for readers that are really paying “.

HBN Diaries is a companion piece to his upcoming comic Hero By Night that will be published by Platinum Studios.

Hello this is a long time listener to the podcast, but first time emailer.

You know Danielle Corsetto of Girls with Slingshots and Batboy, right?

Well, Danielle is trying to go the Birmingham International Comic Show, but she’s not really sure she can pay for the tickets there…

Yeah, her house hasn’t burned down, and she didn’t have a baby, but still…

She’ll be selling a lot of her artwork among other things at Ebay, so a
small mention would be appreciated. Uh.. please?

While you’re at the page, check out the dancing cactii, courtesy of…
well, me!

Anyway, I always come to your show to be informed of what is going on in
the webcomic world, so I thought it would be a could idea to inform you
of this, I hope I’m not burdening you or anything…

Now there was some grumbling that big shot comic stars would be overshadowing the little guys on Drunkduck. With tonight’s launch of Cowboys and Aliens I was expecting a big POW on the front page of DD. Instead I kinda had to go looking for it. I’m a little surprised but not unhappy to see that life didn’t change much now that Cowboys and Aliens is up. It’s business as usual (if you ignore the forum grumbling).

Seeing as how the earth didn’t stop spinning lets take a first look at Cowboys and Aliens.

At first glance you will notice a very wanted poster style theme. A few small spots where the menu background and the main items don’t look perfect but I’m nitpicking a little, it’s every bit the movie poster I would expect out of a professional book. I will stop you here and remind you that you should check out the trailer. The sound effects really bring it to life.

Here’s a little story background for you that I borrowed from the site.

Cowboys & Aliens was created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, both highly respected comics writers. Luciano Lima, whose worked on everything from Wolverine and X-Force to The Mask, did pencils. Inks were done by the team from Magic Eye Studios, who have worked on comics projects like Street Fighter and Stargate, as well as classics like Donald Duck and Kim Possible. The colour (he likes it spelled that way) was done by Andy Elder whose worked on Warhead and Testament. You can find out more about all these folks on their bios page.

Cowboys & Aliens is an alternate history concept. A “what if” story that moves the battle of the Old West from between the Cowboys and Indians to a new invader, one requiring the once battling Cowboys and Indians to team up if they are to have even a hope of surviving.

On a side note Here there be robots is in their recommended list.

I just clicked on the story and I’m loving the look of it so far. I recommend you start from the beginning. I have a bad habit of reading things from latest to first. The story so far draw parallels between early European settlers treatment of native Americans and an alien race that looks to have forcefully resettled another alien race.

That’s all I have so far. I recomend you check out Cowboys and Aliens. If you spot something I missed about it please point it out.

By MICHEL MARRIOTT

For generations of Americans, comic books were the first real page-turners. But the audience for their digital counterpart, called Webcomics, has for the most part been limited to a niche group of comic book creators and their most ardent followers.

Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, the chairman of Platinum Studios, a privately held California entertainment company that develops and adapts comics for other media, wants to change that.

Platinum, a relative newcomer in an industry dominated by Marvel and DC Comics, took the first step last month when it bought DrunkDuck.com, a popular Webcomics site, for an undisclosed sum. It is opening the revamped site today at the same Web address as DrunkDuck 2.0.

Viper Comics is Looking for a Brand New Webcomic

September 19, 2006 – Viper Comics has announced they will now be accepting open submissions for a webcomic to join the company’s existing strips You’ll Have That and The Horrible Pirates.

“Viper is always on the lookout for the newest talent in comics and hopefully this opportunity will allow us to showcase a great unknown to a world-wide audience,” said Viper President Jessie Garza.

Creators will need to provide sample pages/strips of their webcomic (with finished art) and a full pitch regarding the characters and content. Only submissions from complete creative teams will be accepted. All submissions should be sent to info@vipercomics.com .

The chosen webcomic will launch on the Viper Comics website alongside Viper’s You’ll Have That by Wes Molebash and The Horrible Pirates by Patrick Bussey.

You’ll Have That is a comic-strip about a young married couple updated every weekday. It has received one print collection with a second due in December.

The Horrible Pirates launched in late 2005 and has since been thrilling readers with the adventures of the world’s nastiest pirate crew and their evil monkey rivals. A print collection of the weekly comic is expected for 2007.

Wapsi Square is on my top ten favorite webcomic. Plus Paul Taylor and his family are living in Minnesota so they get extra points with me. Paul’s family can use a little help right now and at the same time you can get your hands on some great art. If nothing else please take a moment to look over what’s up for auction and pass the word.

Thank You

http://www.blanklabelcomics.com/?p=92

Taken from the Blank Lable News and repeted here to help get the word out:

Blank Label Comics is announcing a fund-raiser for BLC member Paul Taylor. Paul’s first child was born a month prematurely on Aug. 18, and he has required an extended hospital stay. Paul and his wife have been through quite an ordeal — which continues to this day.

Extended hospital stays turn into extended hospital bills, so we’d like to help our friend. Several BLC members and friends are auctioning off original art and other amazing items over the next two weeks. The money made from these auctions will be donated directly to Paul Taylor and his family.

A full list of auction items appears below. All list items will be linked to the auctions as they go live. Some items may be added to the list as the next two weeks progress, so check back often.

Finally, if you’re not interested in an auction item but would still like to help, feel free to go to http://www.wapsisquare.com and make a donation directly to Paul through his PayPal donation button which appears under the comic on the left-hand side of the screen (look for Monica wearing a “SUPPORT WAPSI” T-shirt.

I knew we needed to bring a video camera to Megacon. Just Kidding (OK maybe next year). I should have linked this much earlier but you need to check out the Digital Strips Video interview with Jennie Breeden of Devils Panties fame.

I watched hypnotically through both part one and part two. They cover (as usual) a ton of good ground talking about the how-to’s's of surviving as webcomic artist. When your done watching it you can hop over to Jennies forums and tell her how much that camera loves her. Seriously it was a good interview.

Hey Folks,

I don’t know if any of you have been counting, but this weeks Gigcast is # 50. Meaning that in 2 weeks we are at the one year mark.

One year.

Actually this week, while numbered 50 is actually the 52nd Gigcast and the 52nd week , BUT the first Gigcast was released on Aug 20 2005, so… Fuzzy math hurts my head. That blows me away. Really. Who would have thought it?

The reason I bring it up is I’d like to thank you who listen, comment and subscribe to the feed. It really makes it worth the time and effort when I see the #’s and get the feedback.

We’ve met some great people, read some great comics, and saw some amazing artwork over our first year, and have no plans to stop, and only hope it continues to grow and get better.

We’ll be doing a “Year One Recap” show next week, so if you want to send us an e-mail or mp3 file for the show, that would be great. Anyway, Thanks for an interesting year!

JT

We here at Transplant are putting together an anthology. It will have a loose horror theme, and be a full color 6×9 inch book. Several of our members are involved and are writing an exclusive 3-10 page story for it. With us all being divas, we are all insisting that our stories start on a right hand page.

Which is were you come in.

We need an undetermined amount of pin-up artwork to use as filler, so everyone can start on the same side of the book.

The prize? You get your picture published in our book, if we decide to use it.

The deadline? Arbitrarily, August 31st.

How to enter: Post an image in this thread, or e-mail your image to the Admin. By enetering the contest, you are giving us the one time right to publish your work in our Transplanthology. We will not use your image for any other reason, or alter it in any way.

Things to remeber: Your image should go along with the loose horror theme. This is a wildly interpretable subject, though, so you shouldn’t have any problems.

BAD SIGNAL
warren ellis
Who wants to be a Rocket Pirate?

Joey Manley talked me into curating a mass webcomics site. I’ve known
Joey for getting on for six years now. It’s partly my fault that he
got involved with comics at all. I suspect this is his revenge.

People who want to make webcomics are invited to submit their ideas
to me for membership in the Rocket Pirates, a webcomics collective
which will be housed at http://www.rocketpirates.com.

Rocket Pirates will be the first site to launch with the new Webcomics
Nation Collective Edition technology, which will be available as a
commercial product for people wanting to quickly and cheaply launch their
own
multi-creator webcomics portals sometime in the next few months. Because
we’re all about being quick and cheap, believe me.

Rocket Pirates will be free to all readers, all the time. This means,
of course, that there is no cut of subscription fees to offer to
creators. Instead, the system allows each creator the freedom to
install Google Ads, Amazon Associates ads, ads for their own products,
rate cards for prostitution services or any other damn thing on
their comic’s Rocket Pirates page. Also, since we’re not paying, all
Rocket Pirates engagements are on a non-exclusive basis, allowing
the creators to run their comics on their own websites or any other
place that’ll have them.

The non-subscription approach means that I’m also doing this for free,
so anyone who wants to send food and clothing c/o Joey Manley at
Modern Tales is welcome to do so. I also offer inexpensive adult
services.

The submissions system is simply this: email your materials to me
at warrenellis@gmail.com. I want to see at least three completed
pages and an overview of what you intend to do. No need to be
formal — rambly emails talking about the central concepts and what
you want to achieve are fine.

I’m open to anything — series, serialised graphic novels, single
panels, self-contained shorts, newspaper-style strips — in any
style, from manga to clipart to whatever the hell you just invented
in your basement. No limits.

I’m open to any kind of content. You’re going to have to work pretty
hard to get me to accept a superhero project for the site, but if you’ve
got something that knocks me flat, I’ll take it. But, seriously, I
want to eventually curate something that takes in a wide breadth of
what comics can achieve. Surprise me. Give me something straight out
of literary mainstream fiction, give me a warped genre, give me something
I’ve never seen before. That’s the “theme” of the site, the glue that
holds it together. It is quite simply “stuff Warren really likes.”

The submissions process is open to everybody. I don’t care if you
only decided you wanted to try and make a comic ten minutes ago –
I’ll look at it. I’ll warn you in advance that the chances of my
being able to provide detailed and constructive rejections are slight,
but I’ll do my best.

(Also, if the site turns out to be all-male because only guys
submitted, I’m going to be very pissed off, and will infect you all
with this lung disease my girlfriend seems to have passed to me
over the weekend.)

I’d like to be up and running by the end of the month, but I won’t
kick the site live until I have enough work of quality. The submissions
process will remain permanently open. Unless, you know, I change my
mind. I am unpredictable and I drink a lot.

That’s all I’ve got. Please feel free to pass this unedited post on
anywhere you like.

– Warren Ellis

While Sequential Tart isn’t one of my daily reads I do enjoy reading some of their interviews. So today when checking hit logs I noticed that we had been linked from ST. It was good to see Lea out there spreading the word about the NAN Grant. I even laughed a bit as I read her comment of “GOD, THIS IS SHIT!”. I could almost hear her say it in the back of my head.

I read the whole thing and it pointed out something to me. I’m not a very good Fan Boy. I had to look up “All Start Batman and Robin” on Wikipedia to find out that the book came out in July of 2005. I still stop in the comic shop from time to time and buy a few books but it’s been years since I really cared what DC or Marvel do to their titles. Maybe they can somehow spin that statement into a 22 issue crossover series that restarts the Gigcast universe and comes with a nice foil embossed cover….

Oh yea, just cause you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should. I think that was the words I said when I stopped collecting books.

To get back on track. Lea was great enough to quote Our friend Mike Dean:

ST: Lastly, is there something in particular you would like the NAN Grant’s critics to consider? A parting shot, as it were?

LH: I love the self-examination of cartoonist Mike Dean in the comments section of my recent interview at Gigca: “I’ll have to admit, my first thought was much like grotesque mole-man? why should others be bathed in light as I stew in obscurity, but listening to the podcast really plunged some insight on an otherwise unknown world to me (that being the world of pro comics). While I sympathize with the initial feeling of exclusion, I have to applaud the effort as any attempt to promote egalitarian practices between men and women is a good thing”.

“I think the most exciting part of The NAN Grant is the potential fusion between profession practices and the widely amateur driven styles of web comics.”

That’s some insight we could all learn from, and it takes chutzpah to share like that. Mike also allows he gained insight. It’d be great if more people whose knee-jerk reaction to charges of sexism and inequity in comics is “everything is fine” would ask themselves, “If everything’s so awesome, why are so many people saying it’s not?”

So even though we’re now called “Gigca” it’s cool that you thought to link our little site at all.

Thanks Again

Scott (“GOD, THIS IS SHIT!”)

In her words “It’s a dark story of life in a future England, where temperatures never rise above zero and the monarchy is up to no good“. ICE had been on Modern Tales and saddly I kept missing the updates, but that’s all taken care of, Faith has made her archives available for everyone. I previously haven’t kept up with it and I’m not going to blame modern tales or similar sites about their methods. I think they have a good idea. Hell I think they have a great idea where you subscribe to get the archives. I think they need to go further with it and bind up the archives and sell them once a year. I also think they may have been a little ahead of their time. I think that model can work now with as popular as iTunes and similar rss feeds are now. Sorry I got side tracked. ICE is really well written and the story is packed FULL of every thing that makes a good drama. It’s got love, and new addictions, It has bad guys with moral quirks. I like to think of it as having flavor. More then that ICE is consistant the art is great with a prisma color marker look (remind me to ask her how she colors) and the story full and could stand on its own.

What I’m saying is go check out ICE and read through the archives. When your done go back and read Demonology 101 (Also by Faith) and check out the rest of her site.

Wes Molebash over at YHTComic was kind enough to drop us an email with his news announcements. This fits right in with our Gigcast motto of “Make the guest do your work and take all the credit”. Thanks Wes!

Cool Announcement Number the First . . .

I’m finally ready to start selling archival prints of the comic strip. In order for me to purchase the shipping supplies, I’m going to start the selling off with a pre-sale. Basically, I need to sell at least 6 prints in order to purchase the mailing materials. Once I have the materials I can ship the artwork. Unfortunately, the first few customers will have to be “guinea pigs” which means they’ll probably have to wait a few weeks to get their artwork.

All the artwork will be printed on glossy, 8 X 10 photo paper. I’ll ship the artwork flat and double-packaged in a mylar-bag and a cardboard mailing envelope. The archival prints will sell for FIFTEEN BUCKS! That includes shipping.

Almost all of the comic strips are available to be printed, so just e-mail me with your request. Please include the number of the comic (if possible), and/or a description of the comic strip you want to purchase. I’ll send you an invoice via PayPal for the comic strip(s) you ordered. With PayPal, you can make payments through your PayPal account, with a major credit card, or a check through your bank account.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an e-mail or give me a shout on the message board.

Cool Announcement Number the Second . . .

As I was drawing my comics last week, I began thinking about all the strips I have laying around in my closet that have never really seen the light of day. I’ve put a few of these strips in the message boards, but most of them are just laying in a box in my closet.

So here’s what I’m gonna do: Starting this weekend, I’m going to publish these old <!-- D(["mb","<span style\u003d\"font-weight:bold\">YHT comics every Saturday and Sunday on my website (<a href\u003d\"http://www.yhtcomic.com\" target\u003d\"_blank\" onclick\u003d\"return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)\">www.yhtcomic.com\n). Did you know that <span style\u003d\"font-weight:bold\">You\'ll Have That was originally about Andy and Steve in high school? It\'s true, and you\'ll get to see all of those strips starting this Saturday, July 15.\n

So be sure to stop by the website this Saturday for the first in a series of comics I like to call <span style\u003d\"font-weight:bold\">You\'ll Have That: The Lost Episodes. (Seems there was a problem with uploading the file and 1/2 the song, the report about the Toronto ComicGen meet-up and the ending was cut out. Instead of re uploading and messing with the feed, I'll put out the Comic Gen report in the next Drive-by.
Thanks for understanding,

Um Yeah.. it is apparent from this mess of a show that Scott and I don't have the answer, but who cares. Webcomic news, Hitchhikers Guide talk, we sort of discuss the WCC Award nominees (more next show) and a report about the ComicGen meet up at the upcoming Toronto Comic Convention.

When you mouse over the title of a comic in a Smack Jeeves comic archive you get a small thumbnail of the comic itself. Granted it’s to small to read it in that fashion but it certainly is bit enough to get an idea of what is going on.

See an example of it on Jack Magic’s Archives

Chewdy of the webcomic Y? has posted a 1 page preview from part 4 titled “Fire with Fire”. As always Chewdy does great work with a small color pallet. Although he says the next chapter is taking longer then expected I’m betting it will be worth the wait. Here is a bit of what he says.

The time between Parts 3 and 4 is taking a lot longer than I was expecting. Mostly because of various life complications popping up, so I suppose I should be glad that there’s a break in the comic at the moment. But still, I yearn to be doing pages again. That’s the bad news, as well as the fact that there’s probably still another couple weeks before Part 4 starts up.

The good news is half of the script for Part 4 is now done, and I’ve worked out a format for it and title and things like that.…

You can read the rest of it on the official Y? site. Don’t forget that Chewdy has a Live Journal site that you can sign up for.

While I have your attention…It was pointed out to me that over on the DurnkDuck forums Tyrapendragon is organizing a Fusion comic and is still looking for participants so if you’re looking for something fun to do, go sign up! Click on that link above to do so!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a fusion comic is, it’s basically a fun community project where you draw one panel then pass it on to the next person who then draw a panel based on the one you drew and pass it on. The results are usually fun, a bit wacky and unexpected. Thanks BK for pointing that out.

I recieved a email / press release from Wes Molebash of You’ll Have That.

My first comic book signing of the year will be this coming Saturday, June 3rd! The signing will be at ACME Comics which is located at 94 W. Water St in downtown Chillicothe, OH. The shop is normally open until 6 PM, but this Saturday they’re gonna stay open an extra two hours! I’ll be signing books and drawing sketches from 4 PM to 8 PM!

But here’s the real kicker – we’re giving the entire stack of You’ll Have That Vol. 1 away FOR FREE! On top of that we’ll be giving away YHT posters and button sets FOR FREE! How can you go wrong? You don’t have to spend a dime this Saturday! Just stop by the store, give me a shout, and I’ll hand you a book, a poster, and some buttons! I’ll even whip up a little sketchy sketch for you!

We’ll be offering the books, posters, and buttons for free while supplies last! So make sure to get there early, because when they’re gone they’re gone. When ACME orders a new supply of books they’ll charge the full price ($4.95), so no rain checks.

Hope some of you get a chance to stop in and visit with Wes. Don’t forget that you can listen to our interview with Wes HERE.
